C 2022 David Dunbar
I would leave my car south of town
Then take a walk across the cemetery grounds
That is if I go back again
To face my old memories of when
Wind came down the prairie from Alberta
I could smell grandpa’s after shave
Across the field my grandma’s voice floated
Calling me back home to North Dakota
I used to run ’til I collapsed
Then lay me back into the sea of waving grass
Watch the giant clouds floating by
Red-tailed hawks hunting in the sky
Wind came down the prairie from Alberta
I could smell grandpa’s after shave
Across the field my grandma’s voice floated
Calling me back home to North Dakota
I climbed the Eifel tower and saw the rust
The colosseum covered up in dust
The Great Wall lies in pieces today
I stood there and watched them fading away
I could not stand the breeze from Alberta
Without a trace of grandpa’s after shave
Wind came down the prairie from Alberta
I could smell grandpa’s after shave
Across the field my grandma’s voice floated
Calling me back home to North Dakota
Wind came down the prairie from Alberta
I could smell grandpa’s after shave
Across the field my grandma’s voice floated
Calling me back home to North Dakota
To North Dakota
To North Dakota
